Judith Anne Gandolfi passed away on May 10, 2016 at the age of 69 after a short battle with leukemia. Judi was born in London, England in 1946. She immigrated to the United States in 1950s with her mother and sister. After initially living in Washington State, Judi’s family moved to Santa Monica, California where she attended high school. Judi went to University of California-Davis where she met her future husband, A. Jay Gandolfi. Both graduated in 1968 and were wed that summer. They first moved to Corvallis, OR where her husband attended Oregon State University and then they moved to the Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN) for post graduate training. After a short time living in Washington State, in 1978 they settled in Tucson, AZ where Jay became a professor in the Medical and Pharmacy Colleges at the University of Arizona. Two sons (Christopher and Matthew) were born in Oregon and one son (Jason) was born in Minnesota. Judi was very active with her sons, assisting at their swimming meets and coaching them when they started playing soccer. After her sons were all in schools, Judi obtained her teaching certificate from the University of Arizona and taught math and computer for 21 years at Pueblo High School, retiring in 2005. Judi loved animals and enjoyed playing with her cats and dogs or riding her horse on many beautiful trails in Tucson and at her summer home in Strawberry, AZ. Just before retiring, Judi started training and competing with her dogs in agility trials. Her dogs did well in these competitions and they eventually achieved top honors and competed in two National events. Judi was very active with the Saguaro Scramblers dog agility club as a club officer and as secretary for many of the competitions. Judi was active with many crafts and loved making quilts as gifts for the family. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Jay; her sister Marilyn (Oakland, CA), her three sons (Christopher, Matthew, Jason), her three daughters-in-law (Faye, Andrea, Amanda), and four grandchildren (Peyton, Rebecca, Nicholas, Bryan). In lieu of flowers the family requests that you donate to Judi’s dog agility club – Saguaro Scramblers Agility Club, 4049 N 4th Avenue, Tucson, AZ 85705 or via PayPal at address [email protected].
