Judy P. Meyer

Born on May 16, 1924 in Vegreville, near Edmonton, Alberta, she passed away on June 20, 2014 due to an apparent stroke, the day before her 46th wedding anniversary with her husband, David. Other survivors are four nieces and one nephew in Canada. Judy was a breast cancer survivor, and sustained a stroke in 2006. She had been under homecare since.

Judy had a long career with Mountain Bell Telephone, now Century Link, and retired in 1992 after 45 years of service. She was active in the Telephone Pioneers of America. Since the stroke in 2006, Judy suffered with dementia, and was largely confined to a wheelchair. With her husband David, they founded the Tucson Bonsai Society in 1972, and the art became a passion they shared all these years. She was noted for her cultivation of “shohin”, the very small miniature bonsai, under 8” in height, and many of her creations were exhibited in Society shows. The couple had a business for several years, the Bonsai Center & Art Gallery, which became an exciting part of Judy’s life prior to her stroke. The business was closed soon after.

She loved their garden and bonsai, which she viewed every day through her sunroom windows. Through it all, she retained her sense of humor and her love of life.

Her Celebration of Life services will be held on Saturday, July 12, at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY at 10:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis.
