She was born to Fernando and Micaela Valdez on August 21, 1958 in Nogales, Sonora MX. She graduated from Sunnyside High School in 1977.
Letty was Sister to Petra(Ramon), Jesus “Chuy”, Manuel “Meño”, Miguel(Chris), Lupita(Don), Rosa(Paul), Henry(Sandy), Betty(Alex), & Martin “Chito”(DeeDee).
She was mother to her only child Veronica Chaira whom she had with Gilbert Chaira, the love of her life. She was Tia to many many nieces and nephews as well and great nieces and nephews.
Letty dedicated her life to mother Veronica. She was also very involved with her family and friends. Although the list was large of so many that she cherished she always remembered birthdays and even if she didn’t have much to give she always would give you a card. She would even distribute cards of well wishes for every holiday. Holidays were her happy place. She would decorate her home and work space. If you invited her to any event of sorts she would always go out of her way to be present. The relationship with her siblings were a funny dynamic. All derogatory jokes, that would normally be insults to others were their way of loving, and laughing. When a curse word combination of insults weren’t heard by her we knew something was wrong.
Letty was a very blunt, had a no bullshit kind of attitude, and was often called a bully. We her family believe that perhaps in a previous life she was a sailor. She expressed her feelings or what she wanted to do regardless of how it could make you feel. For example instead of saying I need to use the bathroom it was “I gotta take a leak”. She had no filter.
Letty was frugal and organized with her finances. She always had to be in control of every aspect of her life and often she would even reach to control your own.
She was a survivalist, always having her “Just In Case” things. For instance, She always carried a roll of toilet paper in her purse. The trunk of her car and home were always equipped for any natural disaster. Apocalypse ready.
Letty had a such a strong confident demeanor, and she would use that to her advantage. She never backed down from any confrontation. One of her nicknames was “one punch Letty”. Never showing any fear, not even when she was facing death.
Letty was the information center to all family situations. She enjoyed talking about others, which was not her fault, it is part of Valdez genetic composition.
Perhaps as you read this your thinking that all of these things are flaws, but through our eyes this is who she was. She was accepted and we loved her regardless. Underneath her hard tough exterior she was a gentle woman, loving, considerate, but most of all genuine.
Famous words by Letty “Do you know what I mean?”
We love you and will miss greatly
Love,
Lily
