Passed away in Tucson, Arizona on 11.22.21
Dearly loved eldest daughter of Charles and Mary Saleny (both deceased), was born in Chicago, Ill. and moved to Colorado Springs, Co. with her parents circa 1929. Her sister, Helen Williams, was born in Ramona, Ca. and her brother Charles Saleny Jr. (deceased) was born in Colorado Springs. Growing up near the Rocky Mountains, Mae developed a love for all things Western. She begged her parents for a horse and finally at age 13 the dream came true. Mae was a horse lover, rider, and trainer, was a member of the Kit Carson riding club and owned horses well into her later years. Mae loved music and dancing and met Charles “Chuck” R. Camp at a square dance in Colorado Springs. They fell in love and married in 1954 – it was a true love affair that lasted a lifetime. Together they raised four children; Marie Louise Llanes, William “Bill” Richard Camp, Catherine “Cathy” Mae Camp-Davidson, and James “Jim” David Camp (deceased).
The Camp family moved to Tucson, Az. in 1969 to found the Triple C Chuckwagon suppers where the entire family cooked and served meals and performed Western Music shows. Mae was a wonderful musician, singing high harmonies, yodeling, and playing the guitar. In their retirement, Chuck and Mae participated in western musical groups, performed for retirement homes and co-founded the Western Music Association to pursue their passion of keeping western music alive for future generations.
Mae was a wonderful and loving person who greeted friends and strangers alike with an open heart and a smile. Through her lifetime she has developed countless friendships who speak of her generous spirit, loving smile, laughter, and positive attitude. She was an inspiration to many and friend to all.
Mae leaves a beautiful legacy of love and caring for all of her family including grandchildren Jonas Camp, Frank Camp, Krystle Hart, Maximillian “Max” Llanes (deceased), Angel Charles “A.C.” Llanes, and her great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Camp, Everett Hart, and Lillian Camp.
Some of Mae’s favorite sayings;
“Music is good for the soul”
“The outside of a horse is good for the inside of a man (woman)”
