

Born on August 11, 1921 in Lawrenceville, IL to the late Edgar and Mary Carter. She passed on June 3, 2014 in Tucson, Arizona. She spent most of her life growing up in Tucson, Arizona and shared many fun memories with her two sisters, Margery Morgan & Phyllis Randall. Martha was a graduate from Tucson High School class of 1939. She married her late husband, Donald C. Carlson who passed on June 7, 1992. Together they had 2 wonderful daughters; Vicki (Bruce) Read of Tucson, Arizona and Claudia (Bill) Farrer of Chandler, Arizona. Throughout her life she was employed and worked with Mt. Bell & Northwest Bell in Minneapolis, MN and Phoenix, AZ., was supervisor for Kadena Telephone Exchange in Okinawa, Secretary for Red Cross in Saigon, Vietnam, Assistance League of Tucson, TMC volunteer, secretary for Realty Executives in Tucson, AZ., and also worked for her daughter, Vicki Read, at Bullfrogs & Butterflies Children Boutique. As an United States Air Force couple, Martha and Donald did a great deal of traveling and lived in many different places such as; (delete Illinois) Texas, Arizona, Maine, Florida, Japan, Nevada, Okinawa, Vietnam and in addition had the privilege of traveling around the world 3 times. as an Many of her hobbies included, golfing, tennis, sewing, painting, bowling and gardening. She was a member of the Arizona Chapter No.2, Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Catalina United Methodist Church in Tucson, AZ. She is preceded in death by her parents Edgar and Mary Carter; husband, Donald C. Carlson and siblings, Margery Morgan and Phyllis Randall. She is survived by her two daughters, Vicki and Claudia; son-in-laws Bruce and Bill; grandchildren, Tamara Read of Tucson, Kari (Jim) Meger of Tucson and Judson (Jodi) Farrer of El Paso, Texas; great grandchildren, Allie, Ryan and Abby Meger of Tucson, Ava Farrer of El Paso, Texas; nieces, Judy (Randall) Porter, April (Randall) Brittan, Bonnie (Randall) Morin, Sandi Valley Goldstein; nephew, Phil Randall and cousins, Linda Mysen and Janie Fields. Martha was truly a wonderful and caring woman who will be truly missed. Please join the family for a visitation on Monday, June 9, 2014 at 11:00 am at East Lawn Palms Mortuary. Graveside service to follow immediately at East Lawn Palms Cemetery, 5801 E. Grant Rd. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Davis-Monthan Wounded Warrior Program, 5355 E. Granite St. Tucson, AZ 85707, checks payable to: Family Support Fund. The Wounded Warrior Program at DM provides aid and care to wounded warriors and their families.
