Maureen “Mo” Dolphin died peacefully at home with family after celebrating Palm Sunday by attending online mass and singing her heart out. Maureen was a faithful servant of god, a 47 year member and eucharistic minister at Our Mother of Sorrows Parish.
Mo was born in Philadelphia on July 5th, 1933, the youngest of six children. She came to Tucson in 1946 with her mother and in 1951 was a member of the first graduating class to attend Tucson High for all four years of their education. Maureen went on to work many years at the Handy Andy, later becoming the paint department manager at Payless Cashways. She was married in 1956 and later that same year had her only child Susan. After retirement she went on to do what she truly loved which is being a grandmother and seamstress. Her days were filled with creating anything from simple children’s clothing for her granddaughter all the way to wedding and quinceanera parties. Mo sewed until her final days of life, and never missed a day of watching jeopardy and playing her games on the computer.
Mo is survived by her granddaughter Jennifer Schloatman (Alana O’Neal) who she adored and was the light of her life. Additional grandchildren who helped to keep her young, “the twins”, Michael and Michelle Bevan, who she gained later in life. A multitude of others have loved her, thought of her as and called her grandma. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Josa Rigor, her daughter Susan as well as her five older siblings.
Services will be held on Monday, April 5th beginning with a viewing at 9:30 at Eastlawn Cemetery (5801 East Grant Road). Mass to follow at 11:00 at Our Mother of Sorrows Parish (1800 South Kolb Rd. ) with interment at Eastlawn immediately after. Reception to follow at family home ( 3024 East Mabel St). In lieu of flowers, donations should be sent to Shriners.
