

Meredith “Scott” Wood, Jr. passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tucson, Ariz., from a major stroke on January 2, 2024. Scott is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Barbara Hawes Wood, children John Scott Wood, James Steward Wood, grandchildren Emma Elizabeth Wood, and Abigail Claire Wood; first cousin Judith Clements and Steven Martin; and nephew Kingsley Wood Jr.
Scott was a truly adventuresome person having climbed mountains over 8,000 meters in the U.S., Mexico, South America, and Nepal. He began studying photography and joined the Professional Photographers of America. His other interests were bicycling, science, astronomy and music.
He was born April 16, 1934 in White Plains, N.Y. to Meredith Wood, Sr. (President of the Book of the Month Club) and Helen Martin Wood, and lived in Scarsdale for 75 years. In the early 1950’s he spent winters in Tucson attending Greenfields Preparatory Academy and his parents bought a ranch in Mammoth, Ariz. Where they raised cattle and racehorses. He graduated from Deerfield Academy, Deerfield, Mass in 1952; William College, Williamstown, Mass., in 1956; Columbia University, NY City, in 1958. While in college he was ranked No. 3 in the U.S. in squash racket sports. In 1958 he joined Chemical Bank (JP Morgan Chase) in NY City and was an officer for 31 years.
Scott was a previous member of the Hillsboro Club, Pompano Beach, Fla., The University Club, NY City, and was a current member of Fox Meadow Tennis Club, Scarsdale, and Shenorock Shore Club, Rye, NY., and The Mountain Oyster Club in Tucson. Scott and Barbara joined the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute in 2013 enjoying many lectures. Scott had a very high IQ and enjoyed reading, telling stories and socializing with friends. A Celebration of Life will be held in Tucson at a later date.
