Mitchell Barrigar, 16, passed away June 15th, 2014. Mitchell was preceded in death by his grandfather Edward Barrigar. He is survived by his father, Michael Barrigar, his mother Melissa Griebel and Melissa’s partner Sue Dunn who loved him more than the word “stepmother” could ever convey, and by his brother Mason Barrigar who he loved very much--even though, in typical big brother fashion, he didn't say it very often. Also survived by his grandmother Marie Barrigar and his “Papa” & “Nana” Jon and Cindy Griebel, his uncles Mark Barrigar and David Griebel, his “Aunt Patty” Hutton. Cousins Matthew Barrigar, Anthony Hutton, Danielle Tijerina, Samantha & Nicholas Griebel.
Mitchell is also survived by his birth family who all loved him very much: Kenneth & Michelle Davis, and siblings Kenneth, Kevin, Keith, Kyle, Kristin and Kourtney.
Mitchell had the most captivating smile, and when he chose to show it, he would light up a room. He was a tremendous friend to many people and was always willing to help others in need. Mitchell had a huge support in the AA community, had recently achieved a milestone of 1 year of sobriety, and he remained sober to the end of his life.
Mitchell was an avid guitarist and had played in two bands in his short life, House Divided and his most recent band Verona. He was never happier than when he was playing music, especially on stage. Music was his life. He’d aspired to play music for a living and was exploring many avenues to that end.
Mitchell was born in Las Vegas, Nevada. He attended Mesquite, Old Vail, and had just completed his sophomore year at Cienega High School, including two honors classes. He also attended Pima College with the goal to graduate early. He was working his second summer job at Mr. Electric, and previously worked at the Pima County Public Defender’s Office. He loved working at both places very much.
Mitchell’s parents are buoyed by the outpouring of support from the friends who loved Mitchell. Our lives will never be the same and our hearts are broken. We are richer for the years we had him and we cherish every memory. We ask each of the young people who knew Mitchell to reach out and ask for help when you need it. Even if the word “help” is all you can utter. Let him be the last one.
