Norman C. Schroeder passed away July 8, 2016 of complications from Alzheimer’s disease. He was 74 years old. He is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Clare (Coward), who managed his care to the very end. He leaves his sons Carl (Caroline), Steve (Sandra), seven grandchildren, and his older brother, Vern.
Norm was born in Chicago, as the youngest of 8 (and the younger twin to his sister, Nancy). He dropped out of high school and joined the military at 18, later completing his GED and attending college. He served the Air Force in Okinawa and was part of the secret war in Laos. After completing his tour of duty, he worked full-time for the Arizona Air National Guard for over a decade, retiring from the military after 22 years.
He and Clare were married in 1966. In 1977, they moved with their two young boys to Prescott, Arizona. Norm opened Schroeder’s TV Service, which he ran for 20 years. He later became a licensed contractor and built custom homes with his good friend Ronnie Schnose. He and Clare returned to Tucson in 2000, where Norm worked as a product tester at Raytheon Missile Systems until retiring in 2012.
Norm will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He will be remembered as a devoted family man with a terrific sense of humor who never complained. His deep faith in Christ is the cornerstone of our family. He was a good husband, a good father and grandfather, and a good man. We will miss his laughter, his calm demeanor, and his belief that there is nothing in life that can’t be fixed with a little duct tape and silicone rubber.
The family wishes to thank Angela and the staff at Handmaker’s, Gloria and Lori at 4 West (UMC), and most of all, his loving and devoted caregiver, Ted (BrightStar).
Funeral Services will be at East Lawn Palms Mortuary this Saturday, July 16 with a Visitation beginning at 1:00 and Funeral Service at 2:00.
Arrangements under the direction of East Lawn Palms Mortuary, Tucson, AZ.
