Orlando is survived by his wife Elby Rodriguez; his children Roland
Yasser Rodriguez, Matthew Rodriguez, Larissa Elby Reece, Stalin
Campos, Rhina M. Ramos, and Roly Rodriguez; his grandkids Aubrianna
Rochelle Rodriguez, Kimberly Espinoza, Dovell Reece, Cristina Campos,
and Johana Campos; his brothers and sisters Gerardo Cortez, Baltazar
Cortez, Vilma Rodriguez, Gladis Cortez, Francisca Rodriguez, Victoria
Cortez, and Ofelia Cortez; and many many friends.
Orlando was born July 11, 1945 in El Salvador to Mercedes Cortez and
Andres Rodriguez. He graduated with an degree in Computer Science, and
had a successful career as a caregiver. Orlando was heavily involved
in local community working with disabled children in schools. He
married the love of his life august 26, 1981. He was a devoted father
and avid chess player. He loved playing and watching soccer. He was a
goalie for an amatuer futol team in El Salvador called Fas. His
greatest passion was chess and was known for his abilities to play it
and often played in tournaments across the world, he was on the
National Selection Team for his home country. He was a militant of
FMLN during the Salvadoran Civil War. He was a member of various AA
groups throughout Tucson and was known as Camilo to his friends there.
He was a very spiritual man who loved St. Jude Lebbe Thaddeus who
preached peace, hope, consolation, and aid, all ideals he deeply cared
about. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and anyone
who knew him.
