— Matthew 25:23
Oscar Lee Jackson was born on August 3, 1926, in Arp, Texas, to Leavoda Jackson and Eddie May Foster Jackson. As the oldest of nine children, he learned early the values of responsibility, strength, and leadership.
As a young boy, Oscar enjoyed hunting and fishing, embracing the outdoors and the simple pleasures of country life. Throughout his years, he remained an avid sports enthusiast, especially boxing and football. Family gatherings often found him playing card games and dominoes with his brothers—moments filled with laughter, storytelling, and brotherhood.
Oscar graduated from Arp High School in 1945. At 17 years old, he aspired to become a Tuskegee Airman pilot. Though health concerns prevented him from pursuing that dream, his commitment to serve his country remained steadfast. In 1951, he enlisted in the United States Army. Over 20 years of honorable service, he rose to the rank of Master Sergeant and retired in 1971. From 1967 to 1970, while stationed at Fort Huachuca, Arizona, he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service.
On July 24, 1961, Oscar married Margaret Tillman. From that union came two children: Darrell (stepson) and Damita. He led his family with quiet authority, consistency, and deep love.
In the early 1990s, he became a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church, continuing his faith journey in fellowship and devotion.
Oscar was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Leavoda Jackson; his beloved wife, Margaret Jackson; his brothers Robert, James, Lorenzo, Benjamin, and Billy; and his sister Mary.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Damita Jackson-Owens; his grandchildren Aiesha, Jameel, and Jamilia Beasley, and Kelilah Owens; his great-grandson Eziel Baron; his brothers Levearl (Sheila) and Emmerson (Doris); and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
Master Sergeant Oscar Lee Jackson lived 99 extraordinary years marked by discipline, resilience, love, and faith. His legacy stands tall and will endure for generations.
