On 7-6-20 one of the few remaining members of the Greatest Generation was called home. We lost Pop to the Covid-19 virus. He was always a pragmatist and if I could ask him how he felt about what had happened to him I’m sure his response would be, “Well son, it is what it is”.
Pop was an original piece of work and we already miss him greatly. Born in Pasadena California in 1926 he enjoyed the sun and open spaces of a very different California. In High School, football was his passion and he was good at it!
He joined the Navy at 17 right out of High School and proudly served aboard the U.S.S. Makassar Strait CVE 91. The ship was awarded two battle stars, one for their service at Iwo Jima and the second battle star for their efforts in the battle at Okinawa. Pop was proud of his service but didn’t talk much about it. All of his family members are very proud of him and his service to our country.
Pop attended USC on the GI Bill. He earned a Bachelors Degree in Business and was always a proud Trojan.
He was married twice and had a daughter and a son by his first wife and was a proud step father of two daughters from his second marriage. As the old lion aged he enjoyed visiting with all six of his grandchildren and was always happy to have a Face Time visit with his four great grand daughters.
Pop spent the last 20 years of his life living in Tucson Arizona enjoying life in the Sonoran Desert. Known for carrying a bottle of hot sauce he was always ready to enjoy a good spicy meal and a cold beer. We miss you Pop, the world is a lot smaller and colder place without you in it.
