

Shirley Jean Phillips passed away on August 31, 2024 at the age of 90. She was born in Indiana Harbor, Indiana on Friday July 13th 1934 to the late Torvid Conwell and Kenneth Roberts. Shirley was also preceded in death by her beloved husband Wayne (Major Byron Wayne Phillips). Shirley is survived by her brother Butch (Kathi) Powell as well as her niece Shana Powell and great niece Alisha Powell. Shirley moved to Tucson to attend the University of Arizona to study book keeping. She was also a cheerleader and continued to cheer for the Wildcats for the rest of her life. She met and married the love of her life, Wayne, in 1971 and they traveled extensively for his military career. She was the Director of Training at Mountain Bell and retired in 1986. Shirley loved water skiing and boating with Wayne as well as their travels to Canada, Hawaii and the Far East. They enjoyed traveling with the University of Arizona football team and tailgating. Shirley enjoyed volunteering with the military and USAF as well as in the community. Shirley was a member of the Military Widows Association as well as Military Officers Association of America. She was a member of Beta Delta Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha for 28 years. She was very active in the Fraternal Order of Police Auxiliary while her brother Butch was a deputy sheriff. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Vail Church. Over the last 24 years she enjoyed spoiling her niece Alisha, taking her on lots of trips. Shirley was an incredible sister, aunt, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all. The family would like to express our gratitude to Peppi’s House for making sure that Shirley was safe, comfortable and pain free. A Celebration of Life will be held at East Lawn Palms Mortuary 5801 E. Grant Rd. Tucson, AZ 85712 Friday, September 13, 2024 at 3:00 p.m , followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, Shirley requested donations to The Humane Society.
