The eldest of four brothers and one sister, William aka Bill was a loving, sentimental husband and father. Born in Champaign, Illinois, he went to thirteen different schools before his high school graduation, his family following his father’s road engineering work in Indiana and Illinois. A Navy enlistee in WWII at eighteen, he served several tours in the South Pacific. Although accepted at Annapolis he chose to marry the love of his life, his wife of sixty-seven years, Mary Pauline (LaSpina). Father to Cathey Jean Langione (Jon) and Thomas Knox Schreiber (Geri), he never doubted his ability to do anything he set his mind to. A violinist, he auditioned and was accepted in the Louisville Symphony before going to the Great Lakes Naval Training Center. He sang in the Navy Chorus and also sang with the Tulsa Barbershop Chorus. As with many dedicated bread winners, he graduated from Tulsa University in 1969 while working full-time and raising his family. He earned a BS in Accounting and was one of the first IBM 402 programmers. He continued his career as an accountant and systems-analyst programmer. In a successful final effort to quit smoking, he became an avid, expert cyclist. He completed nine cross country Oklahoma Freewheel tours; medaled in several state cycling meets and competed in 4 National Senior Games. Twice, in his seventies, he successfully completed the 100 mile El Tour de Tucson rides. He continued cycling on a regular schedule until eighty-six years old, competing in several Senior Olympics nationally. Youthful at heart, he always took on new projects – a model railroad city named DUNROVIN to entertain fellow residents at the Mountain View Retirement Village. Never one to complain or give-up, by example, he showed his family the right way to live a life of love, of giving, of caring with a pinch of sentiment. An 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service will be held at East Lawn Palms Mortuary on Tuesday, November 12, 2013.
