11 June 2018 – 18 December 2024
With heavy hearts and an unmeasurable depth of love, we announce the passing of our beloved Alana Corazon Bernal. On 18 December 2024, at Seattle Children’s Hospital, Alana completed her extraordinary journey on Earth, cradled in the arms of her devoted family and the immeasurable love they surrounded her with.
From the moment Alana entered this world, she embodied the spirit of a warrior. Born with pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum, her life began as a battle—a battle fought not just with courage but with grace, joy, and an unyielding will to live. Before she was even born, her parents made the bold and selfless decision to leave their home in Hawaii, uprooting their lives to move to Washington. Their choice, rooted in love and sacrifice, ensured Alana would have a fighting chance at life under the care of the incredible team at Seattle Children’s Hospital. This act of devotion was only the beginning of their shared journey of strength and resilience.
Alana’s journey was marked by countless challenges that would test the limits of any heart, but she never wavered. Through numerous heart surgeries, catheterizations, drug therapies, and procedures such as X-rays, CT scans, and MRIs, Alana remained a radiant source of hope and determination. Her most profound milestone came with her heart transplant—a miraculous gift that gave her the chance to continue her fight, inspiring everyone who was blessed to know her. Even in the face of overwhelming challenges, Alana’s words of reassurance to her mom and dad, “I’m okay,” revealed the profound courage of her spirit and the depth of her love for her family.
Alana’s strength was rivaled only by the purity of her joy. She found magic in the simplest of moments—twirling to her favorite songs, cuddling with her beloved pets, and sharing endless giggles and hugs with her mom and dad. Her radiant smile could light up even the darkest corners, and her laughter was a song of resilience that will echo forever in the hearts of those who knew her.
Though her time with us was far too short, Alana’s life was a masterpiece of love, resilience, and courage. She reminded us all to live with grace, to find beauty in every fleeting moment, and to hold tightly to the ones we love. Her legacy is not defined by the length of her life but by the strength of her spirit and the love she left imprinted on our hearts.
Alana is survived by her devoted parents, Maria Socorro Bernal and Carlos Bernal Jr., whose steadfast love and sacrifices gave her every possible chance to thrive; her extended family, who loved her deeply and unconditionally; and countless friends and caregivers whose lives were forever changed by her presence. She is also survived by her cherished pets, who brought her boundless joy.
A celebration of Alana’s extraordinary life will be held on 6 January 2025 at Mills and Mills Funeral Home & Memorial Park, beginning at 10:00 AM. All who knew and loved Alana are invited to join in honoring the strength, love, and light that she embodied so fully.
Alana, our sweet and fierce angel, your love and light will guide us through every storm and every moment of doubt. You have shown us what it means to live with courage and love beyond measure. We will carry your words—“I’m okay”—etched deeply in our hearts. Rest peacefully, knowing you are, and always will be, the heart of our lives and the bravest warrior we’ve ever known.
