Anna was born to Margaret Grace and Dick Valeos in Centralia, WA, and grew up in Napavine, WA. Her father passed away when Anna was a young child and she was raised by her mother. Anna was active in school and was a very good student. After graduating from Napavine High School in 1952, she attended Centralia Community College and worked at the Chehalis library. After working for Security State Bank in Chehalis, Anna began to work as a supervisor for the Department of Personnel. She then moved to Tumwater, WA, with her mother and sister, Helen, where she continued to work for the State of Washington until her retirement.
Anna was a sweet and loving aunt, sister, and daughter. Her family was everything to her. She loved her home and enjoyed spending time in her yard, tending to her flowers. Anna also enjoyed reading mystery novels and cheering for the Mariners and Seahawks. She was very generous and caring and gave a lot of time to family, friends, and neighbors. Anna was passionate about supporting the children and families of the Thurston community through donations to local food banks and other charities.
Anna was very involved with her Altrusa International group for nearly 60 years. During that time she served as an officer and was on several committees, including the literacy committee. In 2008, she was honored with the Lamplighter Award. Anna could often be found at Lakefair in the summers selling elephant ears to raise money for Altrusa’s efforts. Many of Anna’s dear friends were also members of Altrusa.
Anna was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret Grace (Valeos) Curelas and Dick Valeos, and brother, John. She is survived by her sister, Helen Janisch (Gary), brothers, Dick Valeos (Shirley) and Jim Curelas (Freda), and cousins, Ginger Lindley, Steve Roy (Annette). Anna is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Shawn, Heather, Margaret, Gust, Jaime, and Luke, and her eleven grand-nieces and -nephews.
The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at Providence St. Peter’s Hospital. We would like to extend a special thank you to Anna’s Altrusa family, especially Shirley Pearsall and Marian Graham, and her friends, the Lintott family, Fern Morrow, Barbara Hamilton, the Sarah Lyttle family, Larry Myer, and the Gail Keller family. A celebration of life will be held at Mills and Mills Memorial Park on July 28th, 2023, at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Olympia Altrusa Club, PO Box 2045 Olympia, WA 98507.
