Barbara was born January 19, 1935 to Dorothy and Leslie V. Byrd. A lifetime resident of the Olympia area, Barbara attended Olympia schools where she was a Cheerleader & made many lifetime friends. She married Ron Hagen in 1954 and together they had 6 children, Steve, Mark, Paul, David, Laurie and Jen. Barbara volunteered with the Women’s Medical League, was a Den Mother for the Boy Scouts and a long time member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. Barbara worked as a Retail Manager at Millers in downtown Olympia and Lamonts at Capital Mall for many years before Retiring from Southgate Drug in Tumwater.
Barbara always had a great love for Dogs from Collies to Labradors and enjoyed training, showing and raising them, especially her favorite black lab, Truman. Barbara was Grandmother to Ryan & Allison Hagen (Baldwin), Bobby & Chris Hagen, Mike, Matt & Brian Hagen, Heather & Sierra Hagen, Micah & Sarah McConkey (Pittman) and Justin & Brianna Gage. She will be deeply missed by her many friends, 6 children & their spouses, 13 grandchildren & their spouses and 10 great-grandchildren. At this time NO plans have been made for a community Memorial Service. We may have a small Grave Side Service at a later date.
*In Lieu of Flowers* those who would like to honor BARBARA HAGEN SANDERS are encouraged to contribute toward a beautiful permanent Marble Memorial GARDEN BENCH. Mom often spent significant time at her father's grave and would certainly love this tribute for other families in the community to enjoy for many many years to come. This beautiful brown marble bench will last forever and will be a gorgeous addition to the Mills & Mills Memorial Park. She loved Gardening as well and would much rather have funds spent on permanent flowering bushes than perishable bouquets.
Once funds are raised the bench will be placed in a New Flower Garden near her burial site at Mills & Mills Memorial Cemetery in Tumwater, Washington.Sixty Five dollar donations given by one hundred friends and/or family would meet this goal. Thank you for your generous support. (If funding goal is not met, a less expensive bench and/or permanent flowering bushes will be placed in the garden area matching funds raised). gofundme.com/cahkbg9w https://www.gofundme.com/cahkbg9w Those who prefer to mail a check rather than use Go Fund Me (go fund me keeps 5% of donation), can send it to Laurie Hagen McConkey, 2221 G Street, Bellingham, Wa 98225. I plan to set up a special account for this purpose at Washington State Employees Credit Union in Olympia for this purpose. Thank you for your support.
*Barbara's Favorite hymn was AMAZING GRACE, so I thought I'd place the Lyrics here to honor her:
AMAZING GRACE
Amazing grace, How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost, but now I am found,
Was blind, but now I see.
'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved.
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed.
Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come,
'Tis grace has brought me safe thus far
And grace will lead me home.
The Lord has promised good to me
His word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.
Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease
I shall possess within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.
When we've been there ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun,
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we've first begun.
