She was born on February 25, 1938 to Kenneth and Gertrude Shipley in Portland, Oregon. Betty graduated from Franklin High School in 1956 and later married Ray G. Gluth on September 12, 1958. Ray’s employer relocated the family several times and they resided in Salem Oregon, Fresno California, Sandy Utah and Lacey Washington. Throughout the years, Betty was employed in several jobs, from a Movie Theatre Usher as a teenager, to Salesclerk, School Bus Driver and Medical Office Receptionist.
Betty was a long time member of St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church. She was very involved in the Women’s Group at St. Andrew’s, and was also a member of PEO, the Philanthropic Educational Organization. She was caring and loving to others and would often provide church members or friends with transportation to appointments or assist with housework when needed. She enjoyed cooking, reading, bible study and most of all, spending time with her family. She especially loved visiting the Oregon Coast, where she and Ray eventually built a beach home in the town of Seaside. Everyone knew Betty was an animal lover, but she had a special love for dogs, all dogs, and would have happily adopted 50 if possible.
She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Ray Gluth; daughter, Karen Weber (Matthew); son, Roger Gluth; daughter, Kay Ann Hall (Randy); grandchildren, Ashley Hall, Chase Hall; Great-grandchildren, Caspen Dorfner, Asen Dorfner; brother, Ken Shipley (Marianne). She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Loren and sister Sylvia.
The family is grateful for the love, care and patience provided to Betty by the staff at Garden Courte Memory Care.
