

Beverly Ruth (Layton) Krembs passed away at home January 23, 2016, at the age of 89. She was born in Olympia, Washington, to Howard and Clara (Hinman) Layton on August 12, 1926, the youngest of nine children. The Layton family made their home in Sheridan, Wyoming, where Bev's father died when she was seven years old. During her Junior year of high school, Bev and her mother moved back to Olympia. Bev graduated from Olympia High School in 1944 and worked at the local drugstore as a bookkeeper.
She married Lee H. Krembs on January 18, 1947. They bought property on Johnson Pt. Rd in the Olympia area where they raised their family and Bev lived for the next 65 years. She worked for 20 years as a secretary at Chinook Middle School and the North Thurston School District Office. She believed in giving back to her community and volunteered for many organizations serving as an officer in the Blue Jeans Homemakers Club, Thurston County Homemakers Council, South Bay PTA, Thurston County Fair and Group Health Cooperative. She was the recipient of the PTA Golden Acorn Award and the Presidential Award for Volunteering.
Bev was preceded in death by her husband, Lee; son-in-law, Dennis Crimmins; brothers Leland, Ruel, Adrian, Harley, and Forrest Layton; and sisters Erma Adams, Marjorie Weber, and Lila Reinhart. She is survived by daughter Sandra Crimmins of Tumwater and son Larry Krembs (Terry) of Tenino. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Tara Clemmens (Levi), Kasey Schiewe (Jeff), Bridget Irish, and Bernadette Irish; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Mills and Mills Funeral Home and Memorial Park, Tumwater, WA, on Thursday, February 4, at 1 p.m. The family suggests memorial donations be made to Washington Talking Books and Braille Library, 2021 9th Ave, Seattle WA 98121.
