Cameron Albert Carlson was born to Albert O. Carlson and Anna Marie (Johnson) Carlson on February 23, 1928 in Norway Grove, Wisconsin. In 1931 the family moved to a farm in northern Minnesota. Dad finished 8th grade at 14 years old in 1942 and dropped out of school so he could take care of the family farm while his Dad was working out of state. Regardless of the 8th grade education, he was the smartest man we all ever knew.
In 1944 he went to Milwaukee, Wisconsin and worked in a shipyard building Liberty Ships. He joined the Merchant Marines on his seventeenth birthday and served until January 1946. On February 20, 1951 he was drafted and sent to the 16th Signal Operations Battalion at Camp Gordon, Georgia. After signal school, he participated in the Nuclear Weapons program at the Nevada test site. On February 19, 1953 he was “separated from the armed forces” and held in the ready reserve, subject to recall. He was not recalled and was honorably discharged September 19, 1956.
He worked for Christensen Radio, an appliance and TV store in Olympia, for eight years. He was volunteer deputy sheriff in the late 1950’s and quit once he started employment with the Washington State Department of Transportation on May 1, 1961. He retired January 31, 1990.
On August 23, 1968, he married Faye West. He was a 40 year old bachelor, who married a lady with five children. They were married until Faye’s passing on August 10, 2006. Once they were married, they moved into the home on Belair in October 1968, which he resided in until his passing. Prior to this being the family residence for the family, the five kids were in many homes. This marriage and home brought stability to a family that had none.
He loved to golf and he was very good. He had two hole-in-ones, one being at Scott Lake and the other at Capital City which was a long par 3 at hole #11. He went to the Spar downtown for breakfast prior to work nearly every day since the late fifties. They honored him by placing his picture on the wall near the South end of the waitress station. He had many passions in his life; traveling, golfing, bowling, camping with Mom and following Jonathan Stewart’s football career.
He is survived by his youngest sister Bev Seaunier and brother-in-law Bob and their sons - Dave and Mike; his children – Dennis & Jean, Kathy, Sharon & Tom, DeWight & Penny, and Warren & Becca; grandchildren - AG, Stephanie, Traci & Anthony, Denise &Tom, Sean & Jenny, Brian, Tim & Janelle, Tyler, Tiffany & Ryan, Tabatha, Josh & Amanda, Jordan, and Jessica; great-grandchildren – Aubree, Caitlyn, Alissa, Camryn, Carston, Paige, Peyton, Kylee , Karlee, Daniel, Krista, Jena, Ariana, Teara, and Marah and great,-great-granddaughter - Addison; He was preceded in death by his Mom, Dad, sisters Hazel, Norma, and Eileen and his brother Gary.
Dad was our rock, patriarch and Hero of our family. We are all so grateful to have known him and we ALL soo loved him. We will miss you but we know that you are in Heaven with God, Mom, Walt, Caitlyn and all our family who have preceded you.
