

Born to Roland C. Mehring and Helen M. Carter on February 27, 1929 in Butte, Montana, Charles entered eternal rest on November 15, 2015 at his home in Olympia Washington surrounded in love by Alberta, his wife of 65 years, his five children and granddaughter Melissa, an RN who, along with his daughter Susan tenderly cared for him in his last days.
Charles and Alberta McCoy were married on May 27, 1950 at St. John's Episcopal Church in Butte, MT. They were blessed with five children who survive him: Robert(Debra) of Raymond, WA; Diana Casler(Dan) of Olympia; Clifford of Olympia; Susan Mehring-Miller of Columbia, SC; and Michael(Patsy) of Redmond, WA.
Eight Grandchildren also survive him: Melissa Mehring(Alan) of Thousand Oaks, CA; Andrew Mehring(Katie) of Edmonds, WA;Kelsey Boga(J.J.) of Raymond, WA; Casey Sobol(Kimberly) of Olympia; Chad Sobol(Stephanie Jacobs) of Newburg, OR; Matthew McKibbon(Krista) of Pullman, WA; Jawnie Holsker(Lee) of Nashville, TN; and Brittany Miller(Tyler) of Sumter, SC. along with their collective 12 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving Charles are his brother Andrew C. Johnson(Myrna) of Dillon, MT. and his sister Jewel Miles(Bill) of Cecil Lake, B.C., Canada.
Charles was preceded in death by his father Roland C. Mehring; his mother, Helen Johnson; and step-father Andrew M. Johnson.
A Talented man who spent 45 years as an IBEW construction electrician, he could fix anything, loved to travel after he and his wife retired and spent hours caring for the beautiful flowers he grew and a garden that brought him joy. He delighted walking and caring for his two dogs, a West Highland Terrier he called Scooter, and Molly, A Cairn Terrier, who miss those walks everyday.
Charles attended Butte High School, and was honorably discharged after four years in the U.S. Air Force. An active member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Olympia for more than 45 Years, he served as a Sunday school teacher, member of the Vestry and utilized his skills wherever they were needed for a church family he valued greatly.
A Memorial service for members of his family will be held at St. John's on December 8, 2015. As part of the service, Charles' remains will be interred in the church columbarium.
