Cheryl was born on July 18, 1968, in Enumclaw, Washington. She was raised in Toledo, Washington and graduated from Toledo High School in 1986. She later built her life and raised her family in Olympia, where she lived for the past 35 years and made a lasting impact on everyone she crossed paths with.
She is survived by her loving husband, Matthew Gillard; her sons - Brandon Winters, Cole Walpole, and Corey Gillard; her daughter, Riley Walpole; and her cherished grandchildren - Haley Winters, Benjamin Winters, and Bradley Winters. She is also survived by her mother, Patricia Pratt, and her sister, Terri Ternan (Husband Dave, Neice Nikki, Nephew Ben and his family). Cheryl was preceded in death by her father, Roy Pratt, and her brother, Jeff Pratt, specifically.
Cheryl dedicated 35 years of service to the Washington State Department of Natural Resources, where she played a crucial role in developing and growing the payroll unit responsible for the paychecks and benefits of the entire state. She was an integral part of ensuring the accuracy and efficiency with which the agency compensated its employees. Over the years, she formed countless relationships and friendships, and DNR became just as much a part of her family as her own.
Above all, Cheryl was deeply passionate about her family. She loved hosting get-togethers and always made sure there were pictures to capture every moment. She enjoyed cheering on her favorite sports teams, bowling, camping, sitting around bonfires, and having the occasional beer. She especially looked forward to girls’ weekends and trips to the casino.
Cheryl was incredibly smart, hardworking, and loving, with a sharp sense of humor and a confident attitude that made it clear she was not someone to be messed with. She will be remembered for her strength, loyalty, and the fierce love she had for those closest to her.
Celebration of Life will be held at the Lacey Community Center on April 26, 2026 at 12PM for all who wish to attend, share stories, and honor the wonderful person we have lost.
