

Olympia, Washington - Cung Cao Hoang was born in Cao Moc, Thai Binh, Viet Nam on October 15, 1945 to Roi Thi Nguyen and Thinh Van Hoang. He died April 22 at the age of 76 after battling cancer. He passed away at his home on Black Lake with family members by his bedside. He and his wife, Thu Lang Ngo, observed their 49th wedding anniversary last December 31st.
As a young man, Cung served as an officer in the South Vietnamese Army. In April 1975, he, his wife Thu, their children Francis and Ann, and his mother Roi, were evacuated by US forces from Saigon, Vietnam days before it fell to communist forces. After brief stays at Guam; Camp Pendleton, California; and Camp Murray outside Tacoma, Cung and his family settled in Tumwater, Washington where they were sponsored by Don and Mary Peterson. In Tumwater, Cung worked for the Tyee Hotel first as a busboy before being promoted to cook. After a few years he began a 28 year public service career for the Washington State government, retiring in 2006 as a Revenue Officer for the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries.
Throughout his years Cung enjoyed the outdoors. He particularly loved gardening, fishing, boating, and road trips. He also had a passion for singing and music.
Cung is survived by his wife, Thu; daughter Ann Phi-An Hoang; son Francis Quang Hoang, his wife Tracy Kruzick, and their children Eliza Hoang, Isaac Hoang, and Abigail Hoang; sister Khieu Hoang, her husband Thay Nguyen, and their children Thuc Nghi and Phi Yen; brother Chung Hoang, his wife Tham, and their children Tuong An and Tuong Vy; along with numerous other nephews, nieces and their children.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister May Hoang.
Funeral services for Cung will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, May 5th, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lacey, Washington, with reception immediately following. A graveside service will take place at 2:00 pm at Mills and Mills Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Cung’s name to Sacred Heart Church Food Bank or the Hong An Charity which aids the underserved in Vietnam. (www.htthongan.com)
