Daniel William Skinner, 57, of Tumwater, passed away December 18, 2020, of a sudden cardiac event at his home.
Dan was born June 4, 1963 at Elmdorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska, to William and Alleene Skinner and was raised in Yucca Valley, California. Dan was raised with three siblings. He had two brothers, Edwin and David, and one sister, Emilie.
Dan and Lisa met while working together in 2001. In 2005 the couple began dating, and on October 13, 2007 Dan and Lisa Louise Liebert exchanged wedding vows at Pacific Beach in San Diego, California, with a small wedding with family and a few friends in attendance. Dan was one who was able to bring out the best in others, especially Lisa, whom he loved with his whole heart.
Dan's remarkable talent for being inventive influenced his relationship with his children. Dan was exceptionally proud of his two sons, Daniel William Skinner ‘Ace’ and Tyler Jon Skinner. He was proud of the men they had become, with families and children of their own. Dan admired, Hilarie and Dana, the mothers of his grandchildren, for their amazing parenting. Dan’s grandchildren a.k.a. ‘the rugrats’, Kylie, Declan, Jaxon, and Jude, truly made life grand.
Dan was socially resourceful, any person he met became an instant friend, and his humor and curiosity were contagious to those around him. Growing up, his best friend was Larry Page now of Arizona. Later in life, he became close friends with Chris Bjergum of Federal Way, WA and Lea Voss of Maui, Hawaii.
Dan was a lover of animals and cherished his pets. One of Dan's favorites was Abby, a Golden Retriever. They were best friends for 11 years. His family was rounded out by Cricket who he called ‘mamas smut’ (mixed breed of Husky, Chocolate Lab, and American Bulldog).
Having the opportunity to visit and explore a new place always intrigued Dan. Traveling and going away on vacations offered yet another opportunity for Dan to expand his ever-growing inventory of knowledge. Favorite vacations included camping once a year with a growing group of friends for Labor Day weekend in the Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. Dan and Lisa started out tent camping and had bought a travel trailer a couple of years ago and had been going on more camping trips around the Pacific Northwest. They also went on a few cruises, to the Mediterranean, Alaska, and Caribbean. Dan’s favorite pursuits were collecting rocks, travel, camping, barbequing, and woodworking.
Dan’s primary occupation was Environmental Health & Safety Manager. He worked for Boeing from August 1987 until November 1993, Washington State Department of Labor and Industries, Division of Occupational Safety and Health, from December 1994 until April 2018, and then Raymond Handling Concepts Corporation from April 2018 until his death.
