Her career started at Sunset Life Insurance Co. She then worked for Pearson, Dimon, and Briggs CPA firm. However, she is best known as the long term secretary at Garfield Elementary School where she took care of everyone. Teachers, parents, children, staff and principals could always count on her good cheer, professionalism, and a wardrobe for every holiday.
In the past, she donated time as a Girl Scout leader, Mother Advisor of the Order of Rainbow for Girls and Guardian Council member for the International Order of Job’s Daughters.
In the community, she was a life member and past matron of Olympia Chapter #36, Order of Eastern Star. There, she served as a deputy instructor, and state officer. She received the honor of Grand Treasurer Emeritus of the Grand Chapter of WA and state chairman of the Eastern Star Cancer Research Project. Dody was also an active member of the Woman’s Club of Olympia, and the Seattle Children's Garfield Guild. For many years she was a member of Debbie’s Water Aerobics class at Discover Aquatics. Eventually, Fieldstone Assisted Living became her home where she made many memories and friends.
Dody loved singing for people while she played her guitar. She took pride in her colorful flower gardens and cut flowers always made her happy. She was an exceptional cook and always enjoyed hosting guests for meals, parties and holidays. Her cinnamon rolls, rye bread, and pies were enthusiastically consumed by friends and family.
Above all else, Dody loved her family dearly.
She is survived by: daughters Diana Berglund (Bob Berglund) and Lisa Donohoe (Randy Donohoe); grandchildren Ashley Berglund (Zach Drager), Michael Berglund, and Kaitlin Donohoe (Devon Hatchell); sister Betty Hutt; best friend of 45 years, Priscilla Quinton and many other friends and family members.
Her family will be forever grateful to the staff at Capital Medical Center for their excellent care and kindness during her last days.
A celebration of life will be held at Mills and Mills Funeral home located at 5725 Littlerock Rd. SW, Tumwater, WA on March 21, 2026, from 1:00-3:00pm.
