Evelyn L. Sjoblom, 86, was born on July 25, 1925 and passed away on November 23, 2011. She was born in Klaber, WA in the Boisefort Valley. This was a very rural setting. She talked about hiking up to Baw Faw lookout as a child to visit her grandfather, Charlie Roundtree, while he was doing fire watch. She thought nothing of having to let bears pass on her way up the trail. The family moved to Olympia where they lived on Fir Street. While in school, she worked at the Capital Theater for Art Zabel. She subsequently graduated from Olympia High School. After high school, she went to work at Employment Security. She met and married Raymond Herbst. They had one child, Linda Herbst. However, they were eventually divorced. She subsequently met and married Clayton Sjoblom who had a son, Randy Sjoblom. Together, Clayton and Evelyn had one son, Terry Sjoblom.
Her life was very busy as she continued to work full time while taking care of the home and raising Linda and Terry. She eventually left Employment Security and went to the Nuclear Site Evaluation Council where she worked until she retired. She loved to travel to places like Mexico, Hawaii, the Mediterranean, England, Scotland, and Australia. She spent many happy years living on the bay at Boston Harbor. She spent her later years at Olympics West Assisted Living and passed away at Mother Joseph Nursing Home.
She was preceded in death by her husband Clayton, and grandson Simeon Talen. She is survived by her daughter Linda Talen, husband Dan, and grandson Camon; stepson Randy Sjoblom, wife Vickie, and grandchildren Erica and Geoffrey; and son Terry Sjoblom, wife Nancy, and granddaughter Jennifer.
