

Gayland was born on December 15, 1930 in the town of Stanhope, IA to his mother, Lenore Fosberg and father, Clarence (Cub) Fosberg.
Gayland joined the United States Air Force on July 13, 1951, during the Korean War. His service also included supporting the Vietnam War.
He married, the love of his life, Norma Jean Frazee on July 20th, 1955. They had 2 beautiful girls Toni, and Terri. He reenlisted in the Air force, and retired on August 1st, 1971 with 20 years of service to this country.
Gayland went back to school to become a successful Orthopedic Physician’s Assistant. He went to work as an Orthopedic Physician’s Assistant in St. Louis, and loved his work.
Gayland enjoyed hunting with his son- in-law, and grandsons, in Missouri, and was an active Leader in the Boy Scouts. In 1997 Jeanie and Gayland moved across the country to Washington, he spent much of that year staying by his wife’s side, and taking care of her till she passed in 1998. Gayland stayed in Washington, and even in retirement stayed busy with the American Legion, the Masons, and Eastern Star.
He was also active in his Baptist Church. Enjoying his weekly bowling league and during the summer throwing horseshoes in competition. He was always there to assist any neighbor or friends in any way that he could. Gayland received the Red Cross Hero Award for administering the Heimlich maneuver on a toddler. Gayland was always one to be counted on for help.
Gayland was preceded in death by his brother Cordal Fosberg, sister Mary Whaley, Mom and Dad Lenore Fosberg and Clarence (Cub) Fosberg, his wife Norma Jean Fosberg, his son Timothy Fosberg, and his oldest daughter Toni Arnold.
Gayland is survived by his brother’s Sterling and David Fosberg, his sister Charlotte Randall, daughter Terri Libert, his grandchildren Scott Arnold, Angie Treptow, Michael Arnold and Nicole Hopkins, and 9 great- grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held privately for the family. In Lieu of flowers please send a donation to a Cancer Foundation in Gayland’s honor.
