Burial will be April 13 th , 2020 at Mills & Mills Memorial Park, Tumwater

Gevie was born August 12 th , 1918 in Mansfield Washington and lived most
of her early life in Eastern Washington in a large hard working family of
farmers. Her parents William and Helen (Bell) Butt had eight children,
Stanley, Gertrude, Gevie, Richard, Gene, Margaret, Helen and still surviving
Emerson. Gevie met her future husband Leland (Lee) A. Thompson at his
Aunt Reatha’s Dry Goods Store Waterville and she knew immediately he
would be her husband and the father of their children. They were married in
Waterville and lived on their family Orchard in Orondo with Lee’s mother
Beulah where Kathryn L. (Thompson) Anderson of Port Angeles was born.
The family then moved to the Spokane area where Robert E. Thompson of
Tonasket, and Patricia L. (Thompson) Cowell of Olympia were born. The
family moved to Olympia WA for better job opportunities in October of
1948. Their final child was born in Olympia, Randall W. Thompson. Gevie
is survived by all of her children, eight Grandchildren, five
Great-Grandchildren, and two Great- Great-Grandchildren, and many
beloved nieces and nephews as well as countless friends and the
congregation of the McKenzie Road Baptist Church. Gevie lived in Olympia
in the same home on Gull Harbor Road into her 90’s. Her beloved husband
Lee passed away in January of 1974, and now they will finally be laid to rest
together. She worked at Sears in Lacey in the Hardware Department for 26
years. She was an active member of the McKenzie Road Baptist Church and
involved in many of their community outreach programs. She was the
consummate Energizer Bunny and attributed her long life to daily drinks of
warm Mountain Dew, but our family thinks it was the seven years her
daughter Kathy has helped to care for her. Gevie was good hearted, funny,
intelligent, a great cook, loyal, stubborn, friendly, articulate and most of all a
loving daughter, sibling, wife, mother, grand-everything and a friend to all.
No one ever left Gevie’s home hungry.
Memorials donations can be made to Children’s Hospital of
Seattle Washington in her name or any charity of your choice.
