On Friday, December 7, 2012, the angels of God carried our dear beloved, James Andrew Hoover Sr., peacefully to his new home with his heavenly father.
“Pop or Jimmy”, as he was affectionately called by many, was born the eldest of six children to the late Australia Arthur Hoover Sr. and the late Laura Ella Hoover.
Born in Birmingham, Alabama, James moved to Richmond, Virginia in 1958, after graduating from Central High School, Louisville, Kentucky. He met a lady wearing a “Yellow” pants suit, and he knew he was in love. They were married shortly thereafter.
He joined the U.S. Navy that same year, and a few years later, transferred to the U.S. Army, where he served is country until he retired in 1984. Upon retiring from the U.S. Military, he went to work for the State of Washington, Department of Corrections, until his second retirement in 2002.
He was baptized in his early childhood at the Church of the Living God CWFF (Christians Working For Fellowship), Louisville, Kentucky. His faith was tested many times, but he stayed committed to Christ. He renewed his relationship with the Lord, when he began worshiping at Capital Christian Center, Lacey Washington.
James was a man who loved life, his family, reading (The Bible), history (National Geographics), music (Old School R&B), and his gadgets. Easy going by nature, but when he spoke, you wanted to be paying attention. Proud, patient and loving, was the man we knew and loved.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Dedra Yvette Patterson and his only sister, Eleanor Jean Cooper. He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving and devoted wife, Gloretta, his daughter, Nubian Farley (Tommy) of Fayetteville, North Carolina, James A. Hoover Jr. (Melissa) of Lacey, Washington, Douglas Hoover of Richmond, Virginia; Four Brothers: Australia Jr. of Covington, Georgia, William Sr. of Richmond, Virginia, David of Norfolk, Virginia, John of Montgomery, Alabama and Charles Sr. of Richmond, Virginia; Four Grandchildren, Farron Patterson, Ritchie Patterson II of Richmond, Virginia, Marjorie Hoover and James A. Hoover III of Lacey, Washington; Four Sisters-In-Law, Father-In-Law, James Branch Sr. of Richmond, Virginia, Mother-In-Law, Mary Mills of Richmond, Virginia; Three Aunts and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
