Larry passed away un-expectantly and peacefully at home on April 10, 2011. He was born in Woodburn, OR to George and Marie Weigart. He attended grade school at Swegle Grade School, Parrish Jr. High and graduated from North Salem High School in 1963. He attended Northwest Christian College and the University of Oregon. Larry married Rita Bennett Howey on March 21, 1978 in Reno, NV.
Larry entered the US Army in December on 1979 as a Military Police. He spent the next 20 years working mainly as an Investigator. He took his basic training and AIT (Advanced Individual Training) at Ft Mc Clellan, AL. Tours were spent at Ft Belvoir, VA; Ft Greely, AK; Ft Dix, NJ; Sinop, Turkey; Ft Mc Clellan, AL; Frankfurt, Germany; and Ft Lewis, WA, where he retired in December 1999.
Larry loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also enjoyed camping, woodworking, reading western and investigation books, and wintering in Yuma, AZ with Rita. His children, grandchildren and great grandchildren brought him much joy and he was an extremely proud Dad, Grandpa, and, Great Grandpa. He was a proud member of Amvets and spent 2 years as the Commander and held other positions at Post 2 in Olympia, WA as well as positions in the Department of WA Amvets.
Larry is survived by his wife, Rita of 33 yrs.; son, Mike of Salem, OR; daughters, Keri (Rich) of Salem, OR and Lori (Jahu) of Lake Placid, FL; 7 grandchildren (Stephan, Tim, Travis, Jason, Ryan, Hannah, and Faith); and 4 great grandchildren with another one due this month; father George Weigart of Salem, OR; sisters, Eileen and Trish (Phil) of Salem, OR and brother, Dan, of Salem, OR,; his mother-in-law, Jeraldine Bennet of La Grande, OR, brother-in-law, Larry (Gail), of Elgin, OR, and sister-in-law, Chris, of Tenmile, OR plus numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, and cousins and an abundance of friends. Larry was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Michelle; mother, Marie Weigart, in January 2011; and father-in-law, Kelly Bennett, in 1993.
There will be a Celebration of Life on Friday, April 22, 2011 at 12:00 p.m. at the VFW Post 318, 2902 Martin Way E, Olympia WA with potluck to follow. Another Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Salem, OR.
