

Marie Johanna Molden Sundene passed, surrounded by her family, on February 19th, 2016, just hours prior to her 105th birthday. Marie was born on February 20th, 1911, the daughter of Adolph and Mina Molden.
Marie is preceded in death by her husband, Harold Clarence Sundene; brother, Gerhard Molden; and sister, Ruth Berg. Marie was a 1928 graduate of Lincoln High School, a 1931 graduate of Tacoma General School of Nursing, then worked as a private nurse at Providence St. Peter Hospital. September 8th, 1934, she married the love of her life, Harold Clarence Sundene. Together they raised four children: Donald Sundene (Patsy), Ruth Holmquist (Wally), Carolyn Koberg (Richard), Richard Sundene (Lenda).
She was known to her many grandchildren and great grandchildren as "Mor Mor", and she inspired each to follow the Lord. She loved to show them she could do push ups, win at arm wrestling, and always challenged them to do their best. She also loved walking the beach with her family, picking blackberries along the way, making blackberry jam from the berries. While on walks she would often quote: "This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it:". Grandchildren are: Kristine, Paul, David, Eric, Carolyn, Scott, Kristopher, Kevin, Kerry, Kathleen, Melissa, Nicole, Rebecca and Tim; and 28 great grandchildren.
Marie and Harold moved to Olympia in 1934 and joined Trinity Lutheran Church. She was actively involved with Altar Guild and teaching Sunday School. She was a charter member of Lutheran Women's Missionary League; in many leadership positions for 50 years. She instilled a deep faith in her family, each Christmas, reciting from memory Luke 2. Marie was active in the community as a Red Cross volunteer during WWII.
She was very involved in the Olympia Senior Center, Olympia Lunch Buddy School Program, and the Senior Kiwanis where she served as President. She loved to hike, swim and walk. Her love for music and gardening was shared with family and friends; lighting up a room as she entered, always loving, kind and sharing. Her faith guided her to a peaceful passion. A Celebration of Life will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Olympia, on Saturday, March 12th, 2016, at 11:00 am.
