Marie Christine Warren passed away on October 17, 2015 in Olympia leaving behind a loving family. She was born in Seattle, Washington on May 1, 1948 to Sam & Violet (Anderson) Yorio. Marie had a very happy childhood in Seattle surrounded by cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents. She often spoke of her childhood with fond memories of returning home from school with her sister, Teresa (Terri), to the wonderful aroma of their mother’s homemade bread, rolls, and cinnamon rolls. She always said those were wonderful years, and said she told her parents often how thankful she was for her upbringing. She even loved doing the chores she and her sister did from routine housework, helping their paternal grandmother in her large garden to working in their own yard to help their parents keep it pristine. Their parents took great pride in their yard and it showed, and that helped Marie develop a passion to do likewise wherever she lived.
Marie moved to Olympia in 1983 to continue her employment with the State Department of Labor & Industries, and retired in 1997. After her retirement from the State, she worked at The Bon Marche and then at Panorama City where she met her future husband, Franklin Warren. They were married on April 12, 2003 at First Baptist Church in Olympia.
Marie is survived by her sister, Terri Quale, niece Krista Jefferson (Michael), grandnephews Logan Jefferson and Avery Jefferson, niece Joanna Quale, and numerous cousins. Also, she is survived by her extended family of Warrens and Stokers as a result of her blessed marriage to Franklin. Among this extended family, she is survived by Hans & Kathryn (Warren) Stoker, Duane & Cheryl Warren, and Thomas & Diane Warren. She was predeceased by her husband Franklin and stepson Jeffrey.
After receiving the diagnosis that would be ending her life here, she gave a valiant fight to continue living to finish what she wanted to do with home projects and her work at her church. She was very involved in all aspects of her church from helping with the Feeding Ministry, Women’s Ministries, taking charge of the funeral/memorial receptions and wedding receptions, serving on the Mission Board, Deacon Board, as well as other duties. She loved it all and loved her church family at First Baptist.
Marie wanted to be certain that special recognition and thanks be extended to Hans & Kathryn Stoker for their daily phone calls, trips to take her for doctor appointments, running errands, and just being with her. Also special thanks to her sister, cousins, and dear friends who called her daily with offers of help and support. They all made a difference from the initial diagnosis to her last days. Another special thank you to Pastor Bob at First Baptist for listening, being there, and offering to do anything at any time.
Marie’s memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2015, at Olympia First Baptist Church, 9th & Washington streets at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment will be next to her beloved Franklin in Peabody, Massachusetts, at Cedar Grove Cemetery. Arrangements by Mills & Mills, Tumwater, WA.
