Roy Allen Snyder Roy Allen Snyder, 71, a lifelong resident of Washington, passed away on Nov. 19, 2011 in Olympia. He was born on September 10, 1940 to Matt and Edna Snyder in Aberdeen. At the age of 14 after the passing of his father; he, his mother and brother Louis moved to Littlerock where he later graduated from Rochester High School in 1958. After graduation Roy took his first full-time job with Barnes Floral in downtown Olympia and spent the next 14 years learning and perfecting his love of the lawn and garden business. He married and started his own family in 1967 and is survived by his daughter, Toni and his son, Bret. In October 1971 he accepted employment with Yard Birds Shopping Center in Olympia. He was a very ambitious and dedicated employee, winning employee of the year on more than one occasion. The store celebrated his expertise by placing a large banner across the top of the garden department dubbing it "Roy Snyder's Garden Department". During his 26 year tenure he worked his way up from Sales Clerk, to Hardware/Garden Manager to Assistant Store Manager of the Shelton location until the company went out of business. He then took a position with the Dennis Company in Montesano, continuing his love of the lawn, garden and hardware industry until his retirement in 2004. Roy was an avid sports fan and especially loved major league baseball. He was a true Mariner's fan but he was a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and watched with great joy as the Cardinals won this year's World Series. He enjoyed camping, fishing, remote control hydroplanes, mowing the lawn, gardening, cutting wood and detailing his vehicles. The family would like to thank Capital Medical Center ICU and Respiratory Staff for their phenomenal care during hospitalization and Capital Place Retirement Community Staff and Residents for their friendships, generosity and hospitality.
