Sharon was born in Muskegon, Michigan to Peter Jacob and Ida Rose (Mills) Herrygers in 1938. She graduated from Grant High School in 1955 and married Darroll “Dode” Shue the same year. During Dode’s military service they traveled to Olympia, Washington where they chose to settle in 1967. In 1993, just prior to his death, Dode built a home in Littlerock, Washington, where Sharon resided for 20 years.
Sharon is preceded in death by her parents, Jake and Ida, and a sister Karen Powell. Sharon is survived by her sister Diane Taylor of Grand Rapids, Michigan and many other beloved family members in Michigan, including Dot and Jim Shook and Marie and Mort Mayhan.
Sharon leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her children Peter Shue of Moxee, Washington, Darolyn Shue and Steven Shue of Olympia and Suzette (Kurt) Brown of Tenino, Washington ; grandchildren, Tim (Angel) Brown, Andrew (Kris) Brown, Willie Painter, Johanna Painter, Brandon Shue, Joshua Painter; and great grandchildren, Ethan Brown, Tyler Brown, Bennett Brown, Caleb Brown, Charles Thurman and Lilyanna Shue.
Sharon had a loving and generous heart and was a friend to many. She held many roles in her lifetime, including Boy Scout den mother, Sunday school teacher and supervisor and manager with the Department of Licensing and Department of Corrections, from where she retired in 1994 after 25 years of service to the State of Washington.
Sharon’s greatest passions were her grandchildren, fishing, travel and playing slot machines. She frequently traveled with her children, including trips to Westport, Florida, Hawaii and Las Vegas. She was also known for sending thank you cards—handwritten and sent through the mail. She was thankful for everything and everyone in her life.
Sharon spoke many times of her desire to donate her eyes after she died as she wanted to have someone else have the ability to see the many wonderful things she had seen. The family takes great comfort in knowing this was done, and in knowing that Sharon is back in Dode’s loving arms.
Thank you Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma for your love and support and setting an example to live life to the fullest and appreciate each and every day. We love you.
