Born in Yakima, Washington, on February 21, 1960, Steve's family moved to Olympia in 1967. He graduated from Capital High School and dedicated his entire career to Providence St. Peter Hospital, retiring in February 2022.
Steve was a man of immense spirit and passion, particularly for the mountains. He was an accomplished mountaineer and skier, including skiing off the summit of Mount Rainier. Skiing was his passion and at one point he had a streak of over 240 consecutive months of skiing at least one day a month on the peaks and glaciers of the Pacific Northwest. Beyond the slopes, Steve was an elite endurance athlete, finishing in the top 220 of the Boston Marathon and completing a marathon in under 2 hours and 50 minutes.
Steve is survived by his loving wife of 34 years (married May 1991), Connie Schoch; his stepdaughters, Stacey West and Lynn Knippel; granddaughter Jade Herrington, and his siblings, Susan Barney, Scott Schoch, Stephanie Williams, and Sam Schoch. He was preceded in death by his mother, Arletta Schoch; his father, Marvin Schoch; and his brother, Stuart Schoch.
His passion, determination, and inspiring spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
