Dodie was born in Hamilton, Ohio on December 4th, 1931 to Estil and Mae King. She was the eldest of two children. She spent the majority of her years living between Ohio, Indiana and Florida. During those years she worked as a homemaker, secretary, electronics assembler and other jobs to support her family in hard times and easier times alike.
In her initial retirement years she moved to Florida upon the passing of her father to provide care for her aging mother until her passing in 2003. She was very involved with the Eastern Star and Red Hat Ladies. She later decided to relocate to Washington State in 2014 to be near her youngest son. She enjoyed her peace and quiet there; working puzzles, gardening and monitoring the homestead.
It is very difficult to sum up a lifetime in a few paragraphs. Some of the little things she has left us all with as memories and tiny traditions include; Love of Family, Creamed Eggs, No Ass-itol Syndrome, Glazed Doughnuts, Money Smarts, calling us to dinner with that distinct “It’s SOUP!” shout to which we dared not be late for, insisting our “dog situation” was not up to par and we needed a guard dog that could be called “something normal like Sally”, and many other matter of fact statements.
Dodie was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Estil and Mae King, her brother Earl King, her husband Bert Mitchell, and her sons Steve and Mike Johnson. She is survived by her Daughter Pam Johnson, Sons Estil Johnson and Jesse Mitchell and many many grandchildren.
At her request no service will be held at this time. Her remains will be interred at a later date in Homosassa Springs, Florida.
