

Bill was born in Orrville, Ohio on May 1, 1931. He did his undergraduate work at The Ohio State University in the field of education. He began his career in 1954 as elementary principal in New Hampshire, Ohio.
In 1956 he was drafted into the Army and was named the outstanding soldier of his company following basic training at Fort Leonardwood, Missouri. He was then transferred to Fort Lewis, Washington for specialized training as a medic.
Following his military duty he acquired his Masters Degree from Western Washington University and was employed as a math and science teacher in the Olympia School District. Bill worked nine years as a teacher and twenty-one years as an elementary principal. He retired in 1988.
In 1962 Bill became a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Olympia. He served both as a Deacon and as an Elder. Bill was a lifetime dedicated and knowledgeable bird watcher and photographer. He and wife, Karen, traveled extensively, pursuing and enjoying this avocation.
Bill was preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis Jones, in 1986. He is survived by his wife, Karen, his son Michael (Dora) and his daughter, Karen Spoon, grand-children: Hunter and Sage Bowman, Michelle and Steve Spoon. In addition, Bill had two step-sons: Field Kline and Scott L. Jones-Kline.
There will be a brief service for the internment of his ashes at the Tumwater Memorial Gardens.
