Andrew Cota, age 93, of Turlock, California passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2022. Andrew was born November 30, 1928 in Maricopa, AZ to Cleotilde Cota and Jesus A. Cota. His parents immigrated to the United States in the early 1920's. He and his family were migrant farmers in California until 1943 when his mother settles the family in Turlock, CA.
Andrew worked jobs in various industries including Southern Pacific Railroad, Laborers Union, and Foster Farms. He retired from the Army as a Master Sargent and is a Korean War veteran. He also served in the Army Reserve and worked as a security guard in the bay area until his early 80's. Andrew was a member of Sacred Heart Church and Knights of Columbus and was a member of the American Legion Post 1988 for 26 years.
Andrew is survived by his wife of 35 years, Maria Cota; his son Andrew Larry Cota; his daughter Elizabeth Zimmer; and his step son Manuel Cardiel (Nina); his grandsons Victor Zimmer and Robert Zimmer, his step granddaughter Linda Cardiel, his step grandsons Manuel Cardiel, Jr., Marques Cardiel and Joseph Cardiel.
Andrew was preceded in death by his father Jesus A. Cota and his mother Cleotilde Cota; his brother Trinidad Cota; his sister Mary Perales; his brother Raymond Cota; his sister Cleotilde Cota; his brother Jesus Cota, Jr.; his brother Joe Cota and his sister Eleanor Vicuna.
Andrew also leave behind five step great grandchildren and 3 step great-great grandchildren.
A combination rosary and funeral mass for Andrew will be held Thursday, July 28, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1200 Lyons Avenue, Turlock, California. There will be a committal service at 2:00 PM at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, 32053 McCabe Road, Santa Nella, California.
Serving as pallbearers are Manuel Cardiel, Manuel Cardiel, Jr., Joseph Cardiel, Ernesto Cobarrubias, Steve Perales and Jaime Guerrero.
