Celina Nunes Mancebo

Celina Nunes Mancebo began her life’s journey on February 25, 1936, in Santa Bárbara, Terceira, Azores. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, deeply devoted to her family and her faith. Celina passed away peacefully on February 3, 2026, at the age of 89, surrounded by her loving family.

On October 18, 1959, she married Joaquin Mancebo. In February 1960, she traveled to Brazil, where they began building their family and future. They were blessed with six children: Joaquin, Manuel, Mary, José Luis, Celia, and Celina

In 1969, the family settled in California, where Celina and Joaquin worked tirelessly in the dairy industry. They eventually made their permanent home in Atwater, California, where they purchased their dairy and where Celina would remain for the rest of her life.

It was there that her heart was full, surrounded by family, laughter, and love. She cherished her role as the family matriarch and took immense joy in her 18 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren, who were the pride and light of her life.

Celina’s legacy lives on through the generations she nurtured, the sacrifices she made, and the love she gave so freely. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

She is survived by her children: Joaquin (Teresa) Mancebo of Atwater, Manuel (Grace) Mancebo of Turlock, Mary Mancebo of Hilmar, Celia (Paul) Baballe of Hilmar, Celina Mancebo of Atwater; her 18 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; her brother Louie (Mary Jo) Nunes of Gustine; and her sister Fatima Pires of Tulare.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joaquin Mancebo; her infant son, José Luis Mancebo; her granddaughter, Cassy Mancebo; her great-grandson, Luke Mancebo; her brothers, José Nunes and Alfredo Nunes, and her parents, Alfredo and Augusta Nunes.

Celina was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hilmar, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Buhach, and S.E.S.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Whitehurst-Norton-Dias Funeral Service, 286 West Main Street, Turlock, California 95380.

The Recitation of the Rosary and Funeral Mass will be Thursday, February 12, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 20263 American Avenue, Hilmar, California 95324.

Committal to follow at Turlock Memorial Park 575 North Soderquist Road, Turlock California 95380.

Serving as pallbearers are Mariana Mancebo Sinclair, Odette Pires Mancebo, Priscilla Grunke, Lacey Robinson, Torrie Celia Mancebo, Noel Machado, Bernadette Silveira, and Celina Marie Mancebo Truax.

Celina Nunes Mancebo iniciou a sua caminhada terrena no dia 25 de fevereiro de 1936, na freguesia de Santa Bárbara, Ilha Terceira, Açores. Foi uma esposa, mãe, avó e bisavó muito estimada, sempre dedicada à sua família e à sua fé cristã. Faleceu serenamente no dia 3 de fevereiro de 2026, com 89 anos de idade, confortada pela presença dos seus familiares.

No dia 18 de outubro de 1959, contraiu matrimónio com Joaquin Mancebo. Em fevereiro de 1960, seguiu viagem para o Brasil, onde o casal deu início à formação da sua família e à construção do seu futuro. Deste enlace nasceram seis filhos: Joaquin, Manuel, Mary, Joseph, Celina e Celia.

No ano de 1969, a família veio estabelecer-se na Califórnia, onde Celina e o seu esposo trabalharam arduamente na indústria leiteira. Fixaram, mais tarde, residência definitiva em Atwater, Califórnia, local onde adquiriram a sua própria leitaria e onde Celina viveu até ao fim dos seus dias.

Foi ali que encontrou grande alegria, rodeada de família, convivência e amor. Assumiu com grande dedicação o papel de matriarca da família, encontrando imenso consolo e satisfação nos seus 18 netos e 26 bisnetos, que eram o seu maior orgulho e a sua maior alegria.

A sua memória permanecerá viva através das gerações que criou, dos sacrifícios que fez ao longo da vida e do amor que sempre soube dar. A sua ausência será sentida, mas a sua lembrança ficará para sempre gravada nos corações de todos.

A Sra. Mancebo deixa de luto, aos seus filhos: Joaquin (Teresa) Mancebo, de Atwater; Manuel (Grace) Mancebo, de Turlock; Mary Mancebo, de Hilmar; Celina Mancebo, de Atwater; e Celia (Paul) Baballe, de Hilmar; aos seus 18 netos e 26 bisnetos; ao seu irmão Louie (Mary Jo) Nunes, de Gustine; e à sua irmã Fátima Pires, de Tulare.

Foi precedida na morte pelo seu esposo, Joaquin Mancebo; pelo seu filho, ainda em tenra idade, José Luis Mancebo; pela sua neta, Cassy Mancebo; pelo seu bisneto, Luke Mancebo; pelos seus irmãos, José Nunes e Alfredo Nunes; e pelos seus pais, Alfredo e Augusta Nunes.

Foi irmã e associada da Igreja do Santo Rosário, em Hilmar, da Igreja da Imaculada Conceição, em Buhach, e da S.E.S.

O seu velorio será realizado na quarta-feira, dia 11 de fevereiro de 2026, das 4h às 8h da noite, na casa funerária Whitehurst-Norton-Dias Funeral Service, sita na 286 West Main Street, na cidade de Turlock, Califórnia.

A Recitação do Terço e a Missa de Corpo Presente celebrar-se-ão na quinta-feira, dia 12 de fevereiro de 2026, pelas 9 horas da manhã, na Igreja do Santo Rosário, sita na 20263 American Avenue, em Hilmar, Califórnia, seguindo-se o serviço de sepultamento no Cemitério Turlock Memorial Park 575, N. Soderquist Road, Turlock, California 95380.
