Charles Ronald Carnes, age 77, passed away on August 21,2013 at his home in Modesto.
Charles was born in Hemet, CA. to the late Zola and Claude Carnes on February 6, 1936. After graduating high school, Charles married Tillie Valenzuela of Beaumont, Ca. In 1954, Charles enlisted the U.S. Marine Corps serving from 1954 to 1958. During this time, he was deployed to Japan during the Korean War and later attended IBM School in San Francisco. Upon his discharge as Master Sergeant, he worked with his father and brother Kenneth of Yucaipa, CA. as Carnes Heavy Equipment Co. in Hemet. After moving to Modesto in the mid 1970”s, Charles worked independently as a state building inspector. Throughout his life he was involved in many organizations such as The Jr. Chamber of Commerce of Hemet, American Legion of Modesto, the Moose International Lodge, and the Construction Inspectors Association. He performed with his band California Country throughout the San Joaquin Valley from 1977 to 1987. He enjoyed writing and performing music, camping, fishing and most of all his family.
His wife, Ronda L. Carnes, precedes Charles in death.
Charles Carnes is survived by his son Neil Carnes of Modesto and daughters, Denise Hampton of Waterford and daughter Charlene Phillips of Texas, stepsons Todd and Preston Allen, step daughter Lisa Dams, 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Burial/Interment will be held at Ripon Cemetery,109 W. Main ST., Ripon, CA on August 28th at 2:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made to Modesto Gospel Mission.
