Francisco F. Costa passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, March 14, at 101 years of age. He was a man of faith, strong work ethic, and devotion to his family. He had a sharp mind, a kind soul, and took great pride in his Portuguese heritage.
Francisco was born in 5 Ribeiras, Terceira, Azores. He married Senhorinha Teixiera Costa, and they had one daughter, Mary Fatima Madruga.
In 1968, they emigrated to America with the help of family already residing in California. They stayed in Santa Clara at the home of my sister-in-law, Maria Veiga, and her daughter Filomena Veiga, until they were guided toward work and a home of their own in Santa Clara. He loved living in that city. In May of 1981, Senhorinha, his first wife, passed away at 49 years of age.
He later married Guilhermina Rocha Costa in 1983, and they were married for 42 years. In 1999, they moved to Hilmar, where they built a good life, helping one another.
He was known as Frank Vinagre on Terceira Island and also in California.
Francisco is survived by his wife, Guilhermina; daughter, Fatinha Madruga; two granddaughters, Kellene Madruga-Kendall and Lindsey Cecilio; great-grandchildren, Gaberiel and Audriana Cecilio, Kameron and Karter Madruga-Kendall; sister, Lina Mabel Furtado; as well as nieces and nephews in Terceira. He also leaves nieces and nephews in America and Canada.
He is preceded in death by a baby sister; father, Francisco; mother, Serafina; first wife, Senhorinha; brother-in-law, Gilberto Furtado; and son-in-law, Philip Madruga.
The visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 20263 American Avenue, Hilmar, CA 95324, USA. The Recitation of the Rosary and Funeral Mass, will take place on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 20263 American Avenue, Hilmar, CA 95324, USA.
The committal service will be held on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery, 490 Lincoln St, Santa Clara, CA 95050, USA.
Pallbearers will be Mike Cecilio, Eddie Def\Freitas, Tony De Freitas, Brandon Azevedo, Joe Freitas, and Antonio Soares.

Francisco F. Costa faleceu na sua casa, em paz, rodeado de sua família, no Sábado, 14 de Março, aos 101 anos de idade. Ele era um homem de fé, forte ética de trabalho e devoção à sua família. Tinha uma mente afiada, uma alma bondosa e orgulhava-se da sua descendência portuguesa.
Francisco nasceu em 5 Ribeiras, Terceira, Açores. Casou com Senhorinha Teixiera Costa, tiveram uma filha, Mary Fátima Madruga.
Em 1968, emigraram para a América, com ajuda de família já residente na Califórnia. Estiveram em Santa Clara, na casa de minha cunhada, Maria Veiga, e filha Filomena Veiga, até orientação de trabalho e casa para viverem em Santa Clara. Ele adorava viver nessa cidade. Em Maio de 1981, Senhorinha, sua primeira esposa, faleceu com 49 anos de idade.
Depois, casou com Guilhermina Rocha Costa, em 1983, estiveram casados 42 anos. No ano de 1999, foram viver para Hilmar, aonde fizeram vida boa, ajudando um ao outro.
Era conhecido por Frank Vinagre na sua freguesia, na Ilha Terceira, e também na Califórnia.
Francisco deixa a esposa, Guilhermina; filha, Fatinha Madruga; duas netas, Kellene Madruga-Kendall, Lindsey Cecílio; bisnetos, Gaberiel e Audriana Cecílio, Kameron e Karter Madruga-Kendall; irmã, Lina Mabel Furtado, e sobrinhos na Terceira; também deixa sobrinhos na América e no Canadá.
Ele é precedido na morte; uma irmã bebé; pai, Francisco; mãe, Serafina; primeira esposa, Senhorinha; cunhado, Gilberto Furtado; genro, Philip Madruga.
O velório será na terça-feira, 24 de março de 2026, das 9:00 às 10:00 horas da manhã, na Igreja Católica do Santo Rosário, 20263 American Avenue, Hilmar, CA 95324. A Recitação do Terço e a Missa de Corpo Presente, na terça-feira, 24 de março de 2026, às 10:00 horas da manhã, na Igreja Católica do Santo Rosário, 20263 American Avenue, Hilmar, CA 95324, EUA.
