On Tuesday, May 27, 2025, John V. Mota passed away at the age of 87. John was a man of strength, heart, humor, and tradition- a beloved father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend whose presence was larger than life.
Born on June 24, 1937, John lived a full and vibrant life, deeply rooted in his heritage and community. He had a gift for bringing people together, whether at a local crab feed, a spirited card game, a bullfight, or one of the many festas he loved to attend. There was rarely a social gathering where John wasn't the life of the party. With quick wit and a stubborn streak, he was a character in every sense of the word- one who left lasting impressions and unforgettable stories.
John had a deep love for soccer, often found cheering on his favorite teams with passionate devotion. He valued hard work and embodied a strong work ethic throughout his life, always leading by example. Even in his moments of humor and mischief, his unwavering dedication to his family and community showed through.
He was a longtime member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, where his faith and commitment to tradition were an integral part of his life.
Among his proudest roles was being a loving grandfather. His grandchildren will forever cherish the memories of his playful jokes, stories, and steadfast love he always gave so freely.
John is survived by his children John M. Mota of Modesto, Maria J. Radanovich (Thomas) of Groveland, and Susan Billon (Chris) of Modesto.
His siblings Teotonio Mota (Fernanda) of Modesto and Maria Ferreira of Angra do Heroísmo, Azores along with nieces and nephews.
His four grandchildren: Jillian Radanovich, Melanie Radanovich, Kira Radanovich, and Christopher Billon Jr.
John was preceded in death by his wife Maria Noelia Soares Mota, his son Carlos Manuel Mota, his parents Teotonio Vierra da Mota and Maria J. Goncalves and his sister Madalena Medeiros.
A Visitation for John will be held Monday, June 16, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 9:30 AM at Old St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 709 J St, Modesto, CA 95354.
A Recitation of the Rosary and Funeral Mass will occur Monday, June 16, 2025, at 9:30 AM, 709 J St, Modesto, CA 95354.
A Committal Service to follow at St Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery, 1141 Scenic Dr, Modesto, CA 95350.
Serving as pallbearers are Chris Billon, Christopher Billon Jr., Thomas Randanovich, Mario Mota and Stephen Mota.
