Maria was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Her family was the center of her life, and she expressed her love most beautifully through caring for them—especially by cooking and lovingly catering to her children and grandchildren. Her home was always filled with warmth, comfort, and the aroma of food made with love.
A woman of deep faith, Maria was a devoted parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Turlock. She held a profound devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, and her faith guided her life with grace, humility, and strength.
Maria’s smile could light up any room. She was funny, gentle, and kind, and her presence brought comfort and joy to all who knew her. She will be remembered for her nurturing spirit, her unwavering faith, and the deep love she shared with her family.
Maria is survived by her sons, Paul Sousa (Paula) and Carlos Sousa (Marie); and her daughter, Alice Rentaria (Carlos). She is also survived by her sisters, Maria Rocha, Elvira De Sousa, Odette Doalama, and Fatima Rocha (John); and her brother, Joaquim Cota (Fatima).
Her grandchildren include Michelle Pelletier (John), Roger De Sousa (Jessica), Kelly Greene (Seth), Jennifer Curless (Matthew), Melissa Denego (Myles), and Stephanie Sousa. Her great-grandchildren are Avery Alves, Anthony Alves, Roger De Sousa Jr., Ryder De Sousa, Royce De Sousa, Ryan Greene, Jocelyn Greene, Blake Greene, Allen Greene, Emma Strong, Evelyn Strong, Kendyl Denego, Quinn Denego, and Calen Curless. She is also survived by her cherished great-great-grandson, Rhett Greene.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Elias Ramos Sousa; her mother, Ana Augusta Cota; her father, Federico Machado Cota; and several siblings.
A visitation will be held on December 29, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Whitehurst-Norton-Dias Funeral Service, 286 West Main Street, Turlock, California 95380.
The Recitation of the Rosary and Funeral Mass will take place on December 30, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1200 Lyons Avenue, Turlock, California 95380.
The committal service will follow at Turlock Memorial Park, 575 North Soderquist Road, Turlock, California 95380.
Pallbearers will be Roger De Sousa, Myles Denego, Matthew Curless, John Pelletier, Ryan Greene, and Roger De Sousa Jr.

Também deixa os seus irmãos, Maria Rocha de Toronto, Canadá, Elvira De Sousa de Tulare, Califórnia, Odette Doalama de Toronto, Canadá, Fatima Rocha (John) de Tulare, California e Joaquim Cota (Fatima) de Tulare, California. Deixa ainda 6 netos, 12 bisnetos e 1 trisneto.
Foi precedida na morte pelo seu marido Elias Ramos Sousa, pelos seus pais, Ana Augusta Cota e Fredrico Machado Cota, e vários irmãos.
Foi paroquiana da Igreja Católica do Sagrado Coração de Jesus em Turlock, Califórnia.
