

Mr. Ray Ira Cannon, age 89, “Entered into Rest” on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at St. Francis Assisted Living Facility in Turlock. Mr. Cannon was born in Wasco, California and lived in Turlock for 25 years. He worked for a building industrial company as a cement/pipe worker for 25 years. He also worked in the Turlock area for various employers including Paul Strickland, Dave Perry and Mr. Tanner, pouring underground pipe for irrigation; it was working there that he got the nickname “Cement Red” from fellow workers. He retired in 1970. He served our country during WWII in the U.S. Army from 1943-1946. Mr. Cannon enjoyed playing pool, watching sports on TV and trips to casinos. He is survived by two sons – Benny Cannon of Merced, CA and Jim Cannon (Carole) of Rocklin, CA; brother Jim Dixon (Cathy) of Modesto; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Catherine Elizabeth Cannon in 1978, his second wife Della Mae Cannon in 1994, and his sister Maxine Martin in 2005.
Services: Visitation – Monday, October 20, 2014 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Whitehurst, Norton & Dias Funeral Chapel, 286 W. Main St., Turlock, CA. Graveside Service – following the Visitation at 1:00 p.m. at Sunnyside Cemetery, 2872 N. Cemetery Rd., Stevinson, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
