Bob is survived by his loving wife Arlete of 67 years, son Bob Hemphill Jr. of Chinese Camp, California, daughter Cathy Hemphill of Joshua Tree, California, son Bill Hemphill of Turlock, California, who has been taking care of his parents for many years.
Bob had three grandchildren, Dustin Hemphill, Benjamin Hemphill, and Margaret Smith, all from Tuolumne County and five great grandchildren, Parker, Miles, Max, Hunter, and baby Arlete.
Bob was born in Lebanon, Missouri to Arch and Elva Hemphill. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Sam of Turlock, his sisters Edith and Irene of Missouri, sister Catherine lives in Springfield, Missouri. He has many nephews, nieces, and friends.
Bob joined the United States Air Force out of high school in 1949. He was fortunate to be stationed at Lajes Air Force Base, Azores, Portugal. One of the chain of islands in the Atlantic ocean. This was where Bob met the love of his life Arlete. They were married in August 1953. Bob and Arlete raised three kids while being stationed at military bases all over the world. Being transferred every year or two.
Bob retired from the Air Force in 1971 from Castle Air Force Base near Merced, California. His distinguished military career included a tour of duty in the Vietnam war during the 1968-1969 campaign.
For the first time in his adult life he wasn't living on a military installation. He bought his first and only house and lived in it for 50 years.
During those years he worked until his 80's. Bob was a well respected and sought after sales manager in the auto, mobile home and R.V. industry, finally retiring from his last job with Denis RV in Turlock.
Bob enjoyed being in the great outdoors plus golfing. Fishing was his favorite. Especially with his wife Arlete in the motorhome at nearby Lake McSwain.
They really enjoyed many trips to Hawaii. They even went to the Super Bowl game in New Orleans in the early 70's.
He loved to entertain his growing family by the pool with barbeques and drinks many times every year. Every holiday occasion was always at their house.
Bob will be missed dearly and never forgotten. Especially his sense of humor, jokes, and stories.
A Visitation for Robert will be held from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at Whitehurst-Norton-Dias Funeral Service, 286 W. Main Street, Turlock, California.
A Chapel Service will occur at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 18, 2021 at Whitehurst-Norton-Dias Funeral Service, 286 W. Main Street, Turlock, California. A Committal Service will follow at Turlock Memorial Park, 575 North Soderquist Road, Turlock, California.
