Sofia was known for her grace and deep devotion to her faith, her unwavering commitment to her beliefs was a cornerstone of her life. Her family was her greatest joy, and she devoted herself fully to them with endless love and care. Sofia's kindness, strength, and gentle spirit touched everyone who knew her, and she will be remembered for the love she shared and the faith that guided her.
Sofia is survived by her loving husband of fifty-nine years, João Melo Veredas; her children, Lucia Avila, Maria Batey (Jim), and John Veredas (Jeannine), all of Turlock, California. She is also survived by her siblings, Luciano Alamo (Rosa) of Canada, Laurinda Rodrigues of Jerome, Idaho, Bernadette Alamo of Doze Ribeiras, Terceira, Noemia Vieira of Turlock, California, Cecilia Santos of Tulare, California, and Lucia Costa of Los Banos, California. Sofia also leaves behind her seven grandchildren: Ashley Sharp, Stephanie Cronan (Austin), Kurtis Batey (Victoria), Derrick Avila (Alexia), Anthony Veredas (Madalyn), Amy Veredas, and Lauren Veredas. In addition, her memory will be cherished by her eight great-grandchildren: Cole Cronan, Kylee Cronan, Reese Sharp, Hadley Avila, Hudson Veredas, Elizabeth Veredas, Maverick Avila, and Quentin Weese.
Sofia was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel Coelho Alamo and Maria de Jesus Alamo, as well as her siblings, Maria Ramos, Manuel Alamo, and Francisca Gomes.
Sofia was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Turlock, California, and was also a proud member of C.P.I.D.E.S., I.D.E.S 177, and Our Lady of Fatima Society.
A Recitation of the Rosary and Funeral Mass for Sofia will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1200 Lyons Ave, Turlock, CA 95380. Following the Funeral Mass, Sofia will be laid to rest at Turlock Memorial Park, 575 N Soderquist Rd, Turlock, CA 95380.
Serving as pallbearers will be John Veredas, Derrick Avila, Kurtis Batey, Cole Cronan, Austin Cronan, and Anthony Veredas.
Faleceu no dia 12 de Setembro, em Hughson, a Senhora Sofia Conceição Veredas, com 85 anos de idade. Viveu em Turlock, Califórnia, por mais de cinquenta anos.
Era natural das Doze Ribeiras, Terceira, Açores.
A Senhora Veredas deixa de luto o seu marido com quem foi casada 59 anos, João Melo Veredas, e os filhos Lucia Avila, Maria Batey casada com Jim e John Veredas casado com Jeannine, todos em Turlock, Califórnia. Deixa tambem os seus irmãos, Luciano Alamo casado com Rosa no Canadá, Laurinda Rodrigues em Jerome, Idaho, Bernadette Alamo nas Doze Ribeiras, ilha Terceira, Noemia Vieira em Turlock, Califórnia, Cecilia Santos em Tulare, Califórnia e Lucia Costa em Los Banos, Califórnia. A Senhora Veredas deixa também sete netos, oito bisnetos bem como muitos primos e sobrinhos.
Foi precedida na morte pelos seus pais Manuel Coelho Alamo e Maria de Jesus Alamo; os seus irmãos, Maria Ramos, Manuel Alamo e Francisca Gomes.
A Senhora Veredas era membro da Igreja Católica do Sagrado Coração em Turlock, Califórnia, e membro do I.D.E.S. 177, C.P.I.D.E.S., e a Sociedade de Nossa Senhora de Fatima.
Recitação do Terço e Missa de Corpo presente realizam-se na quarta-feira, 25 de Setembro às 10 horas da manhã, na Igreja do Sagrado Coração, 1200 Lyons Avenue, Turlock, CA.
A Senhora Veredas será sepultada no cemitério de Turlock.
