Darlene H. Sanford

NORTHPORT – Darlene H. Sanford, age 77, passed away February 16, 2022, surrounded by her husband and daughters, at Northport Medical Center ICU. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, February 24, 2022 at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Dax Lancaster officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Ms. Sanford was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ruby Howard; sisters, Betty Sue Gray and Linda Henson; and brother, William “Gary” Howard.

She is survived by her husband, James Sanford; brother, Charles Anthony Howard (Christy); daughters, Denise Williams (David), Vickie Junkin (Tim), and Wendy Thompson (Bryant); grandchildren, Aprille Wilson (Glenn), Jonathan Williams (Morgan), Candace Redmon (Andrew), Caitlin Moss (Austin), Samantha Watkins (Blake), and J.B. Thompson; great-grandchildren, John David Free, Dakota Free, Raegan Free, Jackson Gilliam, Sawyer Williams, McCoy Williams, Levi Moss, Alora Redmon, Evan Watkins, and Laken Watkins; sisters-in-law, Louise Morris, Debbie Jones, and Christy Howard; many nieces and nephews; and adopted daughters, Cindy Winston, Kim Sanders, and Pam Williams.

Darlene was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to William and Ruby Howard on August 13, 1944. She married James Sanford February 15, 1963. They were married for 59 years. For the 59 years they were married they were seldom apart. She was the secretary for their business, Sanford’s Garage, that they operated from 1979-2001.

She enjoyed crocheting hats and blankets for all her grandchildren and great-grands. She loved her family dearly and was always concerned about their well-being. She loved talking on the phone and giving people advice, camping in their RV, reading her Bible, and doing Bible studies. She was a hoot on FaceBook and had multiple accounts. We all loved it because her favorite word for everything was “Wow!”

Pallbearers will be David Williams, Tim Junkin, Bryant Thompson, Andrew Redmon, Austin Moss, and Jonathan Williams.
