Donald R. Murphree

Donald R. Murphree, age 71, passed away January 19, 2025 at his home. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 25, 2025 at Capstone Church with Jeremy Burrage officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church.

Mr. Murphree was preceded in death by his parents, John Richard and Betty Wood Murphree.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Hendrix Murphree; son, Richard Murphree (Stephanie); step-daughter, Ginger Simmons; grandchildren, Kate Murphree, Wes Murphree, Lorrie Acker Gilliland (Shane), and Chloe Acker Juarez (Diego); great-grandchildren, Knox, Sislee, Donny, Brexton, and Sullen; and beloved fur companion, Brisco.

Don held many titles in his life, but his favorite role was being the leader of his family and a strong follower of Christ. He loved nothing more than traveling with his wife, hunting with his son, sharing tales of his youth, mentoring those around him, and cheering his grandchildren on at every sporting event. He was a man whose impact on our lives is immeasurable. He was a storyteller, a teacher, a leader, and a constant source of wisdom and love. Don’s life was a testament to hard work and dedication. His strong hands, shaped by years of labor, were equally adept at construction and gently cradling his family. His laugh was contagious, his advice was priceless, and his love was unconditional.

Pallbearers will be Tim Gilliam, Andy Harshman, Brent Reach, Grant Buck, Shane Gilliland, and Diego Juarez.

Honorary pallbearers are AGC Hospice, friends and members of Capstone Church, John Plott Company, and Dr. Buettner and staff, Kirk Wood, Alabama Utility Contractors Association, Bill and Devan Thomas.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Capstone Church Missions Fund.
