
Dorothy Jane “Dot” Burroughs, of Tuscaloosa, died at her home Oct. 12, at the age of 94.
Dorothy Jane Prewitt was born Dec. 1, 1927, in Tuscaloosa County to James “Tolly” and Ira Maud Prewitt. She was the seventh of eight children. Dot married James “Otis” Burroughs on May 27, 1950. They had two daughters, Toni and Linda, and resided in Tuscaloosa. She enjoyed 62 years of marriage with Otis before his death in 2012, raising her family that would eventually include one grandson, Bryant, and her short time watching her “little Everly” play at her house on Sundays.
She is survived by two daughters, Toni Welbourne, of Tuscaloosa, and Linda Jones (Clinton), of Houston, Texas; one grandson, Bryant Welbourne (Timberly), of Duncanville; one great-granddaughter, Everly Welbourne; one sister, Laura Hollingshead, of Northport; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James “Otis” Burroughs; parents, James “Tolly” and Ira Maud Prewitt; brothers, Woodrow Prewitt, Davis Prewitt, Frank Prewitt and John Prewitt; and sisters, Lois Montgomery and Ruth Sherrill.
Visitation will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 16, at Heritage Chapel and funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. The service will be conducted by Dr. Donald Payne of Forest Lake Baptist Church, of which she was a member for many years.
