

Born to the late James Thomas Walton and Annie Elizabeth Thomas Walton, Dorothy “Dot” lived a life marked by faith, family, and love. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Henry Jones; her daughter, Iris Jane Crawford; her brothers Robert Aubrey Walton, James Lamar Walton, and William Werdna Walton; and her sisters Una Gayle Walton Cox, Mabel Reita Walton McIlwaine, Eva Louise Walton, Mary Elizabeth Walton Harper, and Mildred Irene Walton Nolan.
Dot is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Gayle Pate (Ralph, deceased) and Mary Anne Carpenter (Donald); her son, James William Jones (Regena); and her grandchildren Anne Marie Crawford McKinney (Darel), John Crawford (Lisa), Amanda Pate McDaniel (Dennis), and Ralph Pate Jr. (Anna). She also leaves behind a legacy of great-grandchildren: Ivey Bright Rosser, Cole Bright, Alex Crawford Glover, David Crawford, Parker Pate, Gracie Pate, Ann Elton Pate, Sam McDaniel, Pate McDaniel, Emma McDaniel, Elizabeth Rose McDaniel, and Sara Grace McDaniel; as well as great-great-grandchildren Emma Glover, Rhett Crawford, and Cove Bright.
A devoted member of First Methodist Church of Greensboro, Dot’s life was deeply rooted in her strong faith and love for her church family. Music was her joy, and she faithfully sang in the church choir for more than 75 years, beginning as a young girl when she would ride her bicycle to choir practice at the age of 15. She will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to her loved ones, her gentle spirit, and the countless lives she touched throughout her long and blessed life.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at First Methodist Church of Greensboro on Friday, September 12, 2025. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by the service at 2:00 p.m., with the Reverend Douglas Jolly and the Reverend Judith Walton Comer officiating. A private family graveside service will follow.
Honorary pallbearers will include members of First Methodist Church of Greensboro, Alabama, members of the Excelsior Sunday School Class, and her dear friends Raymond Hambright, Mary Terrell, and Shirley Young.
